PITMASTON PINEAPPLE APPLE

Pitmaston Pineapple also known occasionally as the Radcliffes NonPareil. It is a very old variety English apple from the West Midlands and originally raised as a seedling of Golden Pippin in the late 18th century. Apple Pitmaston Pineapple bears a heavy crop, usually every other year rather than yearly.

As its name suggests, it has an unusual pineapple-like flavour. Rather than being distinguishable as acidic or sweet, Pitmaston Pineapple is of a small group of apples with a unique musky pineapple taste. The flavour is intense with a nutty undertone behind its unique sweet sharpness. Despite the pineapple flavours, the name Pitmaston Pineapple actually refers to the warm yellow colour and stretched shape of the fruit. Although regarded as an eater, its special taste makes it popular for pies and desserts.

Apple Pitmaston Pineapple trees are rarely grown commercially due to their tendency to crop biennially, and this lack of abundance in the shops makes an interesting and popular garden choice.

The trees have large flowers, are not too vigorous and grow upright - making them an ideal tree for smaller gardens. They have a reputation for being scab resistant, and easy to grow. The fruit are ready to eat in mid-October.

Our Pitmaston Pineapple bare rooted trees are lifted in November and made available through to March when the apple trees are dormant; this period is the ideal time for planting. Once the bare root season has come to an end you can choose from our selection of pot grown apple trees, which are available for planting all year round.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
